Why Ministers Became Ordained:

1.    Rev. Amy Long:

Hello.  My name is Rev. Amy Long.  My ULC story started in 1992.  It was then that I heard that my former church where I attended seminary was going to charge its ministers $250/year to maintain our licenses.  I didn’t want to pay that, so I looked for other options.  My friend told me that I could get ordained through the mail, so I sent off my information and request to become ordained through the Universal Life Church.

Rodney Langley (cont.)

We happened to surf into the website of the Universal Life Church, which granted ordination (A free gift, a gift of love, a gift well-intentioned, a gift well-received, and lastly, a gift desired and deserved, in the Year of Our Lord, One Thousand, Nine Hundred, and Ninety-Eight).

The Native population of the U.S. notwithstanding, there are special groups of non-natives which are well served by my ordination, oftentimes inter-racial, and those of many Nations, whether inter-denominational, or from various cultures from around the World.

Intuitive language assumption began at the age of Five, but was quickly squashed in the Langley household. Spanish was the first foreign language which triggered my fancy, and delighted my nimble tongue with rolling rrrr's. However, Father was intent on English ONLY. What delight as a child might I have had, as an intent listener to the Cherokee? What level of proficiency might I have achieved in Spanish?, And when, at the age of 10, might I not have been fortunate to become fluent in Japanese studying the language of Yoko, a Japanese woman married to a friend of Father's?

Alas, not until the age of Twenty and Four years of age did I happen to be "Immersed" into a language group far stranger than any I had encountered in my younger life, Turkish, to be exact, Although, Farsi was briefly experienced from a time before the Ayatollah's.

Laboring intensely for two weeks to grasp only a few hundred words, I was introduced to Conjugation of Verbs in Turkish, and "Overnight" became fluent in my future wife's language.

Even so, the Farsi impact was a delight, as family members were well-versed in the Kurdish, a derivative of Farsi.

Along with my interests in language, I was privileged to study with Doctor Suri in the Tamil language, and was impressed with ONE WORD that summed-up the entirety of my religio-centric studies over the past half century...NAMASTE. Indeed, the one word I had never heard Mother Theresa say, but always knew it was the word on her lips in Newsreels of her journey in India, hands held prayerfully, bowing and speaking the greeting "Namaste" which means: I recognize the Godliness in you.
